What are the pros and cons of being vegan from your own perspective?

Besides the feeling that I am doing something ‘good’ for the animals, the climate and the world, I feel better and I feel healthy, so actually only benefits, both physically and mentally! A disadvantage …. it is sometimes “tricky” at, for example, a party, vacation or when you eat with friends / family. You do not want to be a “burden”, but also want to show what you simply stand for! It is very nice to see if friends / family have made something for you and especially for you, super! This way they can see for themselves how tasty and easy vegetable food is!

It feels way easier for us to live healthy as vegans. It makes us think more about our health and about what we put in our bodies. Also our ecological footprint is smaller than before we went vegan and we know that we are not doing any harm to animals. The only con is that it can sometimes be awkward in social situations, especially when we just turned vegan. Now everybody knows that we are vegan and already take that into account.

Its about Health

This is difficult. I think that it’s about getting used to your new lifestyle. A lot of people will miss some products in the beginning, but you will find a way to enjoy that product or meal in a different way. A lot of pastasauces can be made vegan very easily, like this vegan pasta funghi (http://www.itsabouthealth.nl/2019/01/21/vegan-pasta-funghi/).
I think that the hardest part of being a vegan is the fact that when you go out for dinner, you could be very limited in some restaurants and countries. Especially if you are with a lot of non-vegans. But there are solutions for this as well. You can always ask in an restaurant if they are able to make something plant based. You might not get the most luxurious meal, but I’m sure that they will try their best.

The pro for us is absolutely our own health and the way our bodies react. We feel energetic and healthy. Sophie has had quite some stomach issues, but if she sticks (mostly) to a vegan diet these are kept to a minimum. Additionally, our skin has become more vital.

Cons are that it’s sometimes quite hard in companies or if you’re on a holiday. When we’re traveling it sometimes feels as if you’re not having any impact at all: It’s not as common in other countries to eat vegan as it is in the Netherlands. There is an enormous meat, fish and dairy consumption in these countries. Also, we don’t want to force others to cook differently if we’re having dinners. We think these actually are the main reasons why we don’t have a completely vegan diet yet.

Pros: saving animals, helping the environment, saving MYSELF, feeling active, being pure, healthy and glowy skin, less hair falling out, healthy nails. Look I could go on and on! Cons: this is heartbreaking to me. As a vegan it can be difficult especially if you’re „new“ to make others understand. It can be a challenge, but what I’ve learned along my journey is to simply share your information to others, don’t judge and always be willing to help! Do you and don’t let negativity affect you.

For me there are only pros and no cons. Since eating vegan I am healthier, I feel stronger and better in my skin than ever. I have a delicious meal and no longer contribute to the horrible animal suffering. In addition, it is also better for the environment and therefore also for other people. I would not know what cons there could be 🙂

Plant Ahead

Shifting towards a plant-based and sustainable lifestyle has changed my life in so many ways, on a personal and on a business level. I am much more conscious and focused on the things that really matter: People, animals and our planet. We still have a long way to go, but I am super excited about the progress we are making right now. Of course, I wish no animals were being hurt and that plant-based food was available everywhere, but I think it’s just a matter of time.

I’ve really been wondering why people choose to be vegan. Now, I read here that this lifestyle actually makes you aware of what you put in your body and eventually makes you healthier since you are making better food choices. I might try this kind of diet and look up some 5-ingredient recipes I can incorporate in cooking my meals.
